At Norfolk Bluebell Wood Burial Park, we believe in doing what we can to support charities and businesses alike. Every year, we choose a charity to exclusively support for that year. This is a great opportunity for us to give back and contribute to not only fundraising efforts that the charity requires to operate, but also, to help educate people on the charity itself, what it does and why it’s so important.
For 2017/18, Norfolk Bluebell Wood have been supporting local charity Aylsham Care Trust. Founded in 1985 by Rees Coghan based in St. Michaels Avenue, Aylsham, Aylsham Care Trust (ACT) is a non-profit making charity which has been delivering services for over 30 years.
They provide an ever-increasing range of services in response to local need, serving 500 meals and providing 2000 passenger journeys every month. Also, focusing on individuals with other health concerns such as mental health worries and physical illnesses, as well as additional barriers to do with increasing personal and social isolation, their aim is to provide a wide range of activity and support to individuals, to encourage them to feel empowered and to remain in control of their lives. Ameliorating loneliness has always been at the origin of the organization and remains key today.
ACT was instrumental in making Aylsham one of the first “Dementia Friendly Towns” in Norfolk and as part of their Dementia Support, they provide a range of services to people living with dementia and their carers. These services include Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) at several locations across North Norfolk, which is seen to have a positive impact on people’s levels of cognition, communication and quality of life. In addition to the CST groups, they offer additional assistance at home, reducing their isolation and connecting people with others in similar situations. They also offer a Dementia Outreach Service supporting people in their own homes.
“Working with Andrew & Caroline through 2017 has been a real pleasure and the funds raised have made a valuable contribution towards our community transport and luncheon clubs through the year. Aylsham & district Care Trust is very proud to be working alongside such an innovative new local business and we wish Norfolk Bluebell wood burial park every success”
For us at Norfolk Bluebell Wood, the connection is a personal one. We chose Aylsham Care Trust as a charity close to our hearts, particularly after Andrew’s father benefited from the support he required following a stroke. As a family, we quickly realised how lucky the people of Aylsham are, to have such an incredible facility and this was our way of giving back, by fundraising and raising awareness to highlight the range of support services available to those who need it.
Throughout the year, we fundraised through various events. Our Bluebell Walk was particularly successful, along with the Aylsham Show and our Remembrance service in December. Overall, we raised a total of £718.00 for the charity and we are thrilled to have been able to do our bit.
As we move into 2018/19, the charity we support will change but The Aylsham Care Trust will remain close to our hearts and we hope to be able to work with them again closely in the future.
