diamond jubilee wood
The Diamond Jubilee Woods were planted in 2012 in conjunction with the Woodland Trust to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. This project exemplifies ambitions for the park, to create new habitats of British native woodland for future generations to enjoy.
We have planted thousands of native tree species; including silver birch, hornbeam, beech, holly, box and hawthorn.
This habitat is rich in small mammal life such as voles and insects in the lush underplanted grasslands. There are clear paths cut though the grassland, allowing access to the habitat. This will die back over time as the trees become more established and form a canopy.
We aim to introduce cuttings from the older species in the Bluebell Wood to the Diamond Jubilee Wood.
The planting scheme consists of densely planted areas, with glades being created to provide a range of habitats for the wildlife.
Burials in this habitat are arranged in diagonal rows. Where there are trees we also provide plots in a circular arrangement for ash interments.
